We are excited to announce the inaugural IPWEA Asset Management Congress. Importantly, this is not a conference.
The congress is structured to allow you as policy makers, decision makers and asset management practitioners to have input into Australia’s, and where appropriate New Zealand’s, next generation of public infrastructure asset management principles for the next decade.
IPWEA is the acknowledged peak industry body advising and informing governments and the private sector on leading asset management practices. We have received worldwide recognition for our NAMS asset management strategies, including recently being award a contract by the Government of Canada to fund 200 delegates in our online ‘IPWEA Professional Certificate in Asset Management Planning’ course. Our asset management publications have been sold into more than 140 countries across the globe and more than 10,000 asset management practitioners have attended IPWEA asset management training in the past decade.
However, attached to this leadership mantle is the responsibility to consult widely with key stakeholders about the future of asset management. The future is not ours. It belongs to those who follow us, yet the infrastructure decisions we make today and tomorrow shape the future that we hand over to the next generations and their communities.
The widening competing objectives of insufficient funds and the responsibility to manage and provide for the increasing expectations of our communities and governments is only going to worsen.
We have to find a better way to fund and manage our public infrastructure for the future.
So that’s it. We are bringing the ‘best and brightest’ to the nation’s capital so that together, we – you, us, politicians – can start the conversation about how we transition to a new paradigm. We won’t fix this just by having one congress, but we need to make a genuine start at addressing the issues with meaningful and informed dialogue about the future. The alternate is more of the same – and that will not set us up for the infrastructure aspirations that our country demands and expects for our future communities.
Will you join us and help start this journey?

About the Congress
The Institute of Public Works Engineering Australasia (IPWEA) is the peak body for asset management in Australasia. The Congress will provide a forum for discussion that will generate and nurture ideas and lead to opportunities that will synchronise federal, state and local government infrastructure asset management. The theme for the Congress is ‘Communities for the Future, Infrastructure for the Next Generation’. Knowledge will be shared and feedback gathered to inform IPWEA, their National Asset Management Strategy (NAMS) and key stakeholders on future initiatives that need to be embraced and undertaken by the asset management community.
